Naglev UNICO Hiking Shoes

Greetings from Peru! Our family is close to wrapping up a 10-day visit to this amazing country. We have spent time in Lima, Sacred Valley (to acclimatize to the altitude - with the help of Acetazolamide pills), Machu Picchu, and Cusco. Part of this trip included hiking from the Machu Picchu citadel to the top of the Machu Picchu mountain - 2 miles going up at 35 degrees for a 2000 ft elevation gain to be rewarded with this view. I’m not a hiker and at this altitude (10,000 ft) this was one of the more difficult things I have done.

For reference, this is the view of Machu Picchu from the entrance to the citadel

One of the key purchases for us were great hiking shoes for me and Lora. We went for a shoe called the Naglev. I had seen these on Huckberry and was intrigued. We ordered them (and got a size up per the suggestions) and could not be more happy.

The boots have the look of Sportiva shoes… they are simply amazing shoes. No blisters, no sweaty feet, plenty of grip. We needed waterproof shoes and the plus is that you can get away with wearing these as your only shoes if needed. They don’t stand out as much as other hiking shoes.

These shoes have some neat features:

  • Coconut, Leather, Gum Rubber, Wool, Kevlar

  • Interior wool sock liner wicks moisture away from your foot for comfortable, dry all-day wear

  • Soft, supportive midsole and footbed that molds to your foot over time for a custom fit

  • 100% water-resistant construction

  • Rubber compound outsole with a rugged lug pattern for maximum grip in any condition or terrain

The men’s version can be ordered from Huckberry and Lora got the ladies’ version direct from Naglev. As I mentioned we sized up one so I’m normally a 46 and ordered a 46.5. The two shoes have slightly different colors and sizes.

Note if you want a more combat boot look they have those too.

For our kids, we selected the Adidas Terrex Gore-TEX Hiking Shoes and they are also wonderful. We got these for our daughter.
