Osmo for iPad - 5 stars

Every once in a while it seems I'm the last person to find out about something, in this case the amazing Osmo Educational system.

What is Osmo?

  1. A stand and camera lens for the iPad
  2. A series of apps
  3. A set of physical shapes and objects that the game and camera lens "see"
  4. They work hand in hand to teach your kids to learn to read, count, draw and much more

We have a 5 and a 9 year old and they both have different interests in Osmo. For our 5 year old the Numbers and Words games are fantastic at teaching early concepts, and for fun he likes tangram.

For my 9 year old, the drawing game is what she loves to do.

There is really so much you can do with Osmo it's hard to cover in a single article, but I will attempt to cover the basics.

The best way to get started with Osmo is to get the entire system for $99.

Once it arrives, you unpack the base, stand and put them together. You will also want to download all the apps.

The Osmo will appear like this when done

The kit comes with a number of boxes, one for words, numbers and tangram, a game of shapes.

My daughter loves masterpiece. Here is a video of something she just drew. The Osmo app captured this time lapse while she was drawing. She thinks this is pretty incredible!

I'm really impressed with the quality of the apps, and the overall experience. If you own an iPad it's a no brainer to get this. I find the physical interaction with digital is what really sets Osmo apart from all the other educational games out there.
