Today I was prompted to install Adobe Reader X. Thinking after 10 versions, surely Adobe will finally provide a seamless installation process.
Think again. What exactly am I supposed to do here? Of course! Bring up task manager, and kill this process. Nice one Adobe.

Omar – old buddy, old pal…
What would you like us (Adobe) to do when encountering this situation? Do you want us to just kill that process for you? What?

OMG, Leonard! Long time!Yes, please kill the process. The reason that process was running is that the PDF IFilter was being invoked by the Search Indexer. Seems like a case that should be handled.
I gave up Adobe Reader a couple of years ago and have never looked back. Check out PDF XChange Viewer. Or since you’re a Chrome fan, you could just use their built-in reader.
I’ll talk to our installer folks and see what we can do….
